High performance Computing (HPC) is an indispensable tool for modelling and simulation of scientific problems. Members of the Profile Area MSS are active in and address a wide range of corresponding research topics: from numerical modelling and simulation techniques, over software engineering and parallel programming, to the performance analysis of computer simulations and the processing and visualization of simulation data. This is complemented by a very attractive infrastructure offering: as a national German center, RWTH operates one of the most powerful HPC systems at German universities and provides a range of options to store and publish datasets. The infrastructure offer is accompanied by a hierarchical support concept delivered by Simulation and Data Labs (SDL) driving domain-specific method, algorithm and code development, and Cross-sectional Groups (CSG), providing methodological support.
